Barry West is a senior-level executive with more than 25 years of information technology (IT) experience. Prior to joining SE Solutions, West served as the chief information officer (CIO) for the U.S. Department of Commerce, where he was responsible for leading and coordinating information technology across the department and for guiding and managing the department's effective use of information technology. West was also formerly the CIO and director of the IT Services Division for the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency. In this position, West managed FEMA's information technology and telecommunications systems and provided enterprise-wide IT coordination for FEMA's 10 geographical regions.

Prior to joining FEMA, West was the CIO of the National Weather Service. As CIO, he had overall responsibility for information technology systems, services, policies, and operations. He also has held positions in the U.S. Census Bureau, the General Services Administration, the U.S. Air Force, the University of Maryland, and Tab Books Inc.

West has completed the Chief Information Officers Executive program at the University of Maryland and is former president of the American Council for Technology. He teaches as an adjunct assistant professor in the graduate school at the University of Maryland University College, where he also serves on the advisory board.

A native of Smithsburg, Md., West has a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems from Northern Michigan University, a Master of Science Administration degree from Central Michigan University, and an Executive Master of Science in Information Technology degree from the University of Maryland. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Federal Computer Week’s FED 100 and the CES Government Leadership Award.
