Diplomate Requirements

To qualify for Diplomate Status (DABCHS), the applicant:

  • must be an ABCHS member in good standing for five (5) years
  • must not have any record of disciplinary action from any state, province or territory or certification board during the past ten (10) years, nor currently be under investigation
  • must have no felony convictions
  • if a U.S. Veteran, must be honorably discharged from military service
  • must agree to uphold the Code of Conduct of the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security
  • must be certified at CHS-V, the highest certification level
  • must be a member of a CHS National Emergency Management Team (CHS-NEMT)

In addition, the applicant must describe any contributions made to the CHS program.  This includes service on the ABCHS Executive Advisory Board, service and leadership on CHS-NEMT teams, presentations for courses or workshops at ABCHS conferences, articles or interviews written and published in Inside Homeland Security, referrals who have become CHS members, networking efforts made to promote the CHS program and to establish partnerships, and assistance in developing CHS conference programs.

The applicant must also describe any contributions and service made to the field of Homeland Security.  This includes professional positions held, presentations made or courses or workshops taught at other professional meetings, specialized training received, books or articles published, awards and honors received, community and public service, any other professional affiliations, and any other noteworthy achievements which contribute to the safety of our country.
