How many continuing education credits do I have to submit each year for American Board for Certification in Homeland Security (ABCHS) membership?
ABCHS members are strongly encouraged to complete 10 Continuing Education (CE) credits each calendar year.
How can I earn CE credits from ABCHS to maintain my membership?
ABCHS offers many avenues from which CE credits may be acquired. You can receive CE credits by completing quizzes over articles in Inside Homeland Security®, which are available online. CE credits are also given for attendance to and presenting at the annual Executive Summit, teaching courses or workshops, and authoring articles or columns for Inside Homeland Security®.
Can I earn CEs from outside sources that will apply to maintaining my membership?
Yes. ABCHS's Continuing Education department also accepts CE credits awarded by equivalent outside sponsors for review. To obtain credit, submit a certificate of completion that clearly shows the sponsoring agency's name, title of the workshop/course, date of the event, and number of CEUs or contact hours awarded. Send this information to the ABCHS CE department via fax (417) 881-1865 or mail (2750 E. Sunshine, Springfield, MO 65804). ABCHS honors outside CE credits submitted on a CE-to-CE basis. This means that outside CE credits submitted with a number of contact hours are honored at the number of contact hours minus 1 hour for lunch and breaks. ABCHS proudly accepts all certificates from FEMA.
How do I submit my CE credits to ABCHS each year to maintain my membership?
You may choose to submit CE credits as you get them or submit all 10 at once. CE credits must be earned in the same year in which they are submitted. All CE credits submitted for your annual CE are due on December 31. Please use one of the CE Reporting Forms to tally your total CE credits. All outside CE credits are subject to review. You may e-mail certificates to firstname.lastname@example.org, fax them to (417) 881-1865, or mail them to 2750 E. Sunshine, Springfield, MO 65804.
