Bret began his law enforcement career in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Military Policeman. Over his 25-year career in the Marines, Bret also served as a Criminal Investigations Officer, NCIS Marine Special Agent, Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection Officer, and Criminal Investigations Program Manager. Retiring from the Marines in 2002, Bret next went to work for the U.S. Senate Sergeant at Arms as a Security Planner.
Bret has since enjoyed several roles within the Office of the Sergeant at Arms, including Executive Manager of Security Planning and Operations, Deputy Assistant Sergeant at Arms for Police Operations, Assistant Sergeant at Arms for Police Operations, and is currently billeted as the Assistant Sergeant at Arms for Operations. In this most recent role, Bret has responsibilities for emergency response planning, continuity of operations and continuity of government.
Bret has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from North Carolina Wesleyan College, as well as a Master of Arts degree in Business and Organizational Security Management from Webster University. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA and the Senior Management Institute for Police, in Boston, MA.
